Day 16 - Oregon Coast

Redwood City, CA to Gold and Silver State Park, OR

--Oregon Coast

Slept 10 hours last night in the bed it felt like heaven. Ate breakfast at the Rain Forest Café sausage, 2 eggs, toast and large milk and read a USA Today. Drove to Crescent City, CA and went to the Redwood NP HQ and got some more information it is bigger than it seems but almost all trails and no motor routes. Found a health food store and bought kimchi, sauerkraut and yoghurt, living foods. Headed north on 101 into Oregon.

--Rouge River inlet, Gold Beach

Rouge River inlet was interesting to see the fisherman and how the river outgoing and tide incoming collided. Pushing north on Rt.101 it is one amazing coastal overlook after the next, except for the towns the coast is undeveloped and pristine. Stopped at a library and used the Internet.

--Oregon Coast

Headed inland at Coos Bay to Golden and Silver Falls State Park along a long winding road through steep forested gorges. The whole southern Oregon coast is Scandinavian country with old salty dogs, wooden fishing shacks, very quaint and undeveloped. Working class and lots of timber history, hopefully it never changes.

--Oregon Rain Forest, Silver and Gold Falls

The geography is a rain forest, lush, green and very rugged. It is almost like stepping back to the dinosaurs it feels like land that time forgot. Steep gorges and narrow valleys.

--Oregon Rain Forest, Silver and Gold Falls

Dinner is a feast. Sauerkraut, Liverwurst, pickled herring in cream sauce, 3 raw oysters, asparagus and wine.. oh heaven!
