Day 36 - South Carolina, Journeys End

Springer Mountain, GA to Chapin, SC

Today is the last day of the trip and I awoke both excited and sad to be returning to civilized life. Not wanting to show up dirty and disheveled I found a mountain stream and washed my body and clothes spending a long time cleaning up and getting ready. I felt good and looked good for the homecoming.

Route 60 south through beautiful mountain valleys in the morning sunlight. No traffic just delightful country untouched by modern development lots of charm and the best of Appalachia character.

Continued down east out of the mountains through lots of road changes finally crossing into South Carolina. South Carolina back roads have a settled country rural feel that no other state had, one felt stepping back in time like floating through the countryside it could have been 200 years ago.

Went to the Revolutionary War site Ninety-Six and talked with the National Park Service guy who has worked there for 20 years. I was the 3rd person to show for the entire day, did a quick walk around the site of about a mile. Continued on back roads and glided into my fathers house around 6:30pm , they were just leaving for a dinner date so I wash up, eat a quick meal, check email and in bed by 9:30pm - Made It!

Postscript: After attending my fathers beautiful wedding I returned to Maryland a few days later thus officially completing the trip from where it started.
